The Madeleine Stewart Trio play a variety of traditional music including new compositions and old tunes. They are fronted by Madeleine Stewart on fiddle, whose playing is rooted in the contra dance music of New England and moulded in the melting pot of traditional music in Glasgow. Madeleine is backed by Rory Matheson on piano and Craig Baxter on bodhran. With Rory’s distinctively diverse accompaniment influenced by jazz, blues and dance band music, and Craig’s driving, responsive backing influenced by modern trad percussion and his pipe band background, the trio create a huge sound that belies their small line-up. They’ve been playing together since 2016, and in their first couple years they toured the States and played at festivals around Scotland. In 2023, they launched their debut album at Celtic Connections.
